Abstract

This article examines the use of historical discourses through the (re)construction of myths in the play Memorias y olvidos de José de San Martín (1992) by Antonio Elio Brailovsky. By this mean, I focus on the employment of parody and metatheatre to reinforce the critical approach of sociopolitical contexts in the past and present. Thus, one of the purposes of this article resides in identifying the discursive manipulation in political spheres that try to mask the precariousness in different social sectors. Brailovsky's play allows us to reflect on the circularity of oppression in language that has been taking place since the creation of the Argentine nation.
