Abstract

Although vast criticism about Edgardo Rivera Martínez’s works focuses on the representation of western and Andean traditions, there are other aspects of his literary craft. One of those aspects is the world of emotions. Love, in particular, is at the center of many of his short narrative pieces. In the short stories “El unicornio” and “Enigma del árbol,” love signals the identity of the characters while also connects with the concept of marvel. This development of the subject adds complexity to these literary figures beyond the Andean/ western opposition.
